MAN CITY DEALT HUGE SCARE AHEAD OF ARSENAL TITLE TEST

MAN CITY DEALT HUGE SCARE AHEAD OF ARSENAL TITLE TEST

Posted on September 18, 2024September 20, 2024 by Kareem

Manchester City are facing a nervous wait over the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The influential midfielder was forced off during City’s 0-0 draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night, suffering a suspected groin injury.

De Bruyne was hurt while running towards goal and clashing with Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer. After receiving treatment, the 33-year-old was substituted at half-time, sparking concerns about his availability for the upcoming showdown with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

City manager Pep Guardiola was uncertain about De Bruyne’s chances of playing on Sunday, saying, “I don’t know. I will have more info [on Thursday]. The doctor said to me he was not ready to play [the second half].” De Bruyne was scheduled to undergo further tests today to assess the severity of the injury, making him a major doubt for the match.

The injury comes at a challenging time for City, with defensive stalwart Nathan Ake also sidelined. Midfielder Rodri made his first start of the season against Inter, while Phil Foden, who came on as a second-half substitute, has yet to complete a full 90 minutes this campaign.

When asked if facing Arsenal this early in the season might leave his team underprepared, Guardiola acknowledged the situation but said, “Maybe. But it is what it is. I don’t control the schedule.”

Despite dropping points in Milan, Guardiola remained upbeat about City’s performance. “We played so good,” he said. “I love my team — we are a fantastic team. Inter are the masters of defending and in transition they are strong. Really pleased with the performance. It is the beginning of the season so these players will be better.”

City’s title credentials will be put to the test this weekend, and De Bruyne’s availability could prove decisive in what promises to be a pivotal early-season encounter with Arsenal.

My name is Kareem. This is my blog.

I am a massive fan of football (soccer) across the globe - mainly the English Premier League, and closer to home, the Indian Super League.

In England, I am a big fan of Manchester United, though they are still yet to return to the best of times that they had under Sir Alex Ferguson.

In India, I live in Kochin, Kerala, so there is really only one team I could support - the Kerala Blasters!

You may have read some of my work (I work in the sports department in a well-known newspaper), but this blog is all about my own personal interest, and writing for fun.
