De Bruyne reflects on poor start to the season

February 15, 2021

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is of the opinion that the club are starting to hit their peak. The club made a difficult start to the season and were floundering in the mid-table positions not too long ago. In fact, City have just experienced a worst start to the season since 2008-09. However, things are looking on the up with the club now only one point away from the top of the table. The Belgian midfielder is pleased that City have been able to recover their best form. He says that a lack of physical and mental preparation would be the reason for this poor start.

City have now picked up four consecutive wins in all competitions including wins over Arsenal and Chelsea in away matches. These two victories have elevated the club to a strong position in the league table. The club also goes into the League Cup semi-final match against Manchester United looking to preserve their incredible record in the competition. City have won this title for the past three seasons, while they also have a remarkable statistic going back to the start of the 2013-14 season. Now, it is unlikely thatDe Bruyne may be involved in the League Cup semi-final, as Guardiola may opt to rotate his team. read more …

Manchester United are currently on the brink of exiting the Champions League at the group stages as their chances of qualifying to the round of 16 hang in the balance. United welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to Old Trafford in their last Champions League Group H encounter but suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat thanks to the heroics of Brazilian forward Neymar.

Having earlier beaten both Paris Saint-Germain away in Paris, Leipzig at Old Trafford, and Istanbul also at home, it was looking like they would sail through the group stage and head straight to the next round with a game to spare, but having suffered defeats away in Turkey against Istanbul and the recent loss at home to PSG, they may yet be dropping out of Europe’s elite competition.

Manchester United need new identity and fresh players, saysSchmeichel

November 15, 2020

Legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel says that the Red Devils still need many new signings and a lot more time before they are able to make an impact in the Premier league. After a few months in the sunshine under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, things are looking down for the former champions who have been struggling big-time in the 2020-21 campaign. There is plenty of inconsistency in the United results while rumours off the pitch have also not helped.Schmeichel says that this team needs a lot of new faces who are able to bring in a new identity, while he also went on to criticise the lack of character in the dressing room.

United were able to breathe a sigh of relief and positivity the end of last season after qualifying for the Champions League. However, this positivity has been short lived even if the team has been able to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup and produce some good performances in Europe.United are still searching for the first win at Old Trafford in the league this season and they have taken only two points from six home matches. This happens to be the worst start for the club since David Moyes’ reign back in 2013-14. United’s latest home match ended in a 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

Saha believes Manchester United have missed the trick by not signing Cavani

October 25, 2020

Former Manchester United star Louis Saha believes the Red Devils have missed the trick by not signing Edinson Cavani on a free transfer. The Uruguay international parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain after his contract expired in June and he has since been available on a free transfer. Of late, it has been reported that he could join Benfica and Saha feels his former club should have jumped at the opportunity to landing the marksman.

He told Football Index Podcast: “I think Manchester United are missing a trick by not signing Edinson Cavani this summer. I’ve followed him for many years and I’m gutted there doesn’t seem to be an interest there. For me, Cavani would be the best fit this summer. Cavani has a great eye for goal and his leadership would be a great asset. He has qualities that are very difficult to find on the transfer market.”
