Manchester United were sent packing from the Europa League at the semi-final stage by Sevilla. The Red Devils put in a huge effort against the La Liga side who eventually ran out 2-1 winners and qualified for the Europa League final. They will face the winners between Inter Milan who saw off Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 on Monday.

United took an early lead through a Bruno Fernandes penalty- their 22nd of the season- but Suso equalized before the break before substitute Luuk De Jong scored a late winner.

The Spanish outfit also had their goalkeeper to thank after an inspired display at the start of the second half. Bono was in fine form as he replied to a host of United’s chances.

Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two changes to the side that started the quarter-final against FC Copenhagen. First choice goalkeeper David de Gea was chosen ahead Sergio Romero in goal and Victor Lindel of coming in for Eric Bailly at the heart of defence. Sevilla on the other hand remained unchanged.

Manchester United and Sevilla were the last English and Spanish clubs left in Europe. From the first whistle, there was determination from both sides to book a spot in the final. United will be the team to lose out as they suffered their third semifinal heartbreak of the season. They reached the EFL Cup, FA Cup before finally crashing out of Europe in the last four.

The Red Devils opened the scoring in the 9th minute. They were awarded a penalty after Marcus Rashford fell in the penalty area. Bruno Fernandes made no mistake as he scored another penalty with his trademark jump.

United held unto the lead till the 26th minute. Sevilla broke quickly on the counter before Suso scored after a good delivery into the box. The score will remain like that till the 78th minute. Sevilla broke fast again, another cross into the box and substitute De Jong scored from close range after Aron Wan Bissaka failed to close him down.
