Three Points Counted More Than Performance against Burnley, says Liverpool’s Mignolet

Posted on April 27, 2017June 8, 2017 by Kareem

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has issued a rallying cry to the players after a splendid 2-1 win over Burnley during the weekend.

The Belgian international claims that Liverpool should now use this victory as a stepping board towards securing a place in the Premier league’s top four. With the possibility of winning the title all but ruled out, the club are effectively trying to finish in the top four and ensure a return to the Champions League next season. Since 2009, the club has had only one Champions League campaign, and it is extremely disappointing for the club which has won the trophy five times in the history.

After appearing to lose his place to Karius,Mignolet seems to be back in favour once again. He has been the club’s regular starter, but he watched Ashley Barnes gave Burnley the lead early in the first half.

Just when it seemed that Liverpool would be facing yet another disappointment after having recently secured a positive result against a top team, the club scored through Wijnaldum and Emre Can to get a consecutive win. Liverpool have struggled against teams in the bottom half of the table. Liverpool, though, cannot afford to rejoice successfully after this victory, as Burnley have taken just one point on the road this season. Yet, they almost came close to snatching something at Anfield.” If you’d used a Bet365 code you could have got double odds on a Liverpool win.

“It was a day when it was all about the result rather than the performance. We knew beforehand what everyone was saying about how we didn’t manage to get results against the lower teams who play a different style of football compared to the top teams.Although we went behind, we fought back by playing old school, English football. We fought for everything. The only thing that mattered was the three points,” said Mignolet.

My name is Kareem. This is my blog.

I am a massive fan of football (soccer) across the globe - mainly the English Premier League, and closer to home, the Indian Super League.

In England, I am a big fan of Manchester United, though they are still yet to return to the best of times that they had under Sir Alex Ferguson.

In India, I live in Kochin, Kerala, so there is really only one team I could support - the Kerala Blasters!

You may have read some of my work (I work in the sports department in a well-known newspaper), but this blog is all about my own personal interest, and writing for fun.
